Combat

How you hit

Click the monster. Hold the button down and the character keeps hitting whatever is nearby. That is it — there is no combo to memorise and no timing to land.

Spells and skills sit on the hotbar. Pick one and it becomes what comes out when you attack. A spell spends mana; the basic attack spends nothing.

In MU you do not stand still waiting: the whole game is picking where to hunt. Hitting a monster of the right level pays; hitting one that is too weak pays almost nothing.

Potions are a consumable, and you will use a lot

The red potion fills life, the blue one fills mana. Put them on the hotbar and buy them in bulk — potions are the most constant expense in the game, and running out in the wrong place is how you lose an hour of hunting.

The SD potion fills the shield, that third bar. It is expensive and comes out of the Chaos Machine, so save it for when you are going to need it.

Dying is cheap

You die, you go back to town, and you lose nothing: no experience, no item, no zen. The real cost of dying is the time to walk back to where you were.

That is why trying a new map is worth it. The worst that happens is a walk.

The shield (SD)

Before life there is SD. Every hit lands on it first, and it refills on its own when you stop taking damage.

That is why running away for a few seconds works in MU: you are not just running, you are recharging.

PvP: attacking another player

Outside towns, a player can attack a player. It is not the default — you have to want it.

Whoever kills a player becomes a murderer, and the status has weight:

What happens For how long
Time punished per kill 3 hours
Town guards attack you for as long as it lasts
Entering Blood Castle, Chaos Castle or Devil Square blocked

Shop and trade stay open — the punishment is on movement, not on commerce.

To clear the status before it runs out, use /pk:

Nobody steals your item by killing you

This is the doubt that scares people coming from other games the most: it cannot happen. The system that would make a player drop an item on death to another player is off on this server. You can be killed and never lose what you are wearing.

If you do not want PvP

/offpvp turns your PvP off: you stop being attackable by another player. If you came to play on your own without trouble, turn it on day one.

Where there is no PvP

Inside towns nobody attacks anybody — the guards settle it. Town is a safe place to stop, sort out the inventory and trade.
